I have a special story for spark plugs to share with you.
Take a look of what happened to me.
As i was driving to work, suddenly engine starts to run like a 3 cylinder.
I opened the hood and realise that the engine was really running as 3cylinder. I posted my hand above the cylinders and by the 3rd one, air was coming out.
I realised that a spark plug must had been disconected.
I call the road service and took the car home.
The other day i tried to see what's wrong and i found out that 3rd's cylinder spark plug (the one with the "multiplier" ... don't know if it's the right word) was disconnected.
But not only that was the problem. The plug was broken into little pieces and the "multiplier" was really burned. The spark plug was also disconnected. I remove all the plastic pieces, bought a new "multiplier" and a new plug and then i remove the spark plug to see it's condition.
In the first try of unscrewing the spark it seemed to be very easy to do it. The reason was that the spark had (i'll try to say it as better for you to understand) completly disconnected and there was no threaded....it bacame "bald" if you can see what i mean.
This was the time i called my brother, who is a mechanic, and ask for his help.
In a few words, he placed a screw in the hole of the "missing" spark plug, put a plastic cover at the "exit" of the plug and now the car runs with only the "big" spark plug.
It seems to run exactly as with two spark plugs. (God save ALFA and the t.s engines...
At this point i have a question. Is it a problem to run the car only with one spark plug at one cylinder? Is there anyone who could answer this question?
My brother and i, think is not. He allso told me that, the second spark plug operates as an "afterburnner".
So that the engine has better performance, better fuel burning and so cleaner engine.I think that' s the reason why ALFA use the T.S. system. But the question is still in my mind. Is there a problem?
I'm about to fix the head and put back the missing spark plug but i' ll do it during Easter's holidays.
Till then hope the engine stands.
