Hmmm Tspark oil

My 91 164 tspark has now done approx 155000 miles and still seems to drive really well however about six months ago I noticed the engine was looking a bit oily and that oil consumption had increased I also found some trace of oil in the expansion tank. I therefore assumes the head gasket needed replacing. Although I didnt think about it at the time I had recently started using synthetic oil, I have since reverted back to using a semi-synthetic and oil consumption has stopped altogether, there is little trace of oil in the expansion tank too.

What oils do people recomend? Have any of you come across anything similar? I am still concerned about the head gasket but intned to clean the engine off and flush the sooling system before I replace the gasket.

Re: Tspark oil

I would use a good qualiy oil as recommended by your owners manual.
If the car was recommended to us a 15W40 for example
I would use a 15W40 or 15W50 or 15W60 etc

In reality at 155000 miles it is too late to be worrying about a synthetic oil.

If the synthetic oil had a lower initial viscosity than your reguaar oil then it is a possiblity that this was responsible for your problems.

example if your oil was meant to be 15W ? and you changed to a 10W ? synthetic.
