would it be worth trying an ECU reset before you start changing it? just a thought.
I disconnected the earth from the battery for a few hours.. I dunno if that re-sets the ECU - I've seen people say you have to touch the + and - cables together.. (?) .. but no power for a few hours should blank out the ECU, I'd have thought.
If I swap the ECU, will I have key codes and immobilisor issues?
It's potentially all a bit nasty..
The problem the exhaust fella's have is that the Alfa 3-hole flange seems to be a bit unusual. They have to cut it off and weld the new stainless bits directly to the old pipe... though why they go to all the fabrication effort and don't make a new flange is beyond me..
The guy who did my pipe must have had the IQ of a pile of dead leaves, frankly, since first go, he left the front silencer in there and welded the new stainless section to that... so I had effectively a new back-box with a very long pipe on it.
When I asked the boss fella what his definition of "cat back" meant (since to me it means everything behind the cat') he said on some cars they "leave the front silencer in there", even though it's behind the cat'...
Well, I'm fluent in "Cobblers" so I had to ask why the cat-back system is getting on twice the price of just a back-box then, if all you get is an extra 2' of stainless pipe? And why "that 146 Ti in there
" has got a new front silencer...?
Anyway, the fella didn't make a meal of it.. but they did have to hack the system they just fitted and replace my old front silencer with a new stainless one. That's the bit they welded to the cat'.
Originally the new section was welded to the back of the old front silencer, which is a good 14" from the cat... and that's when the rough running started. It's only because it was lumpy and knackered that I had a peer underneath and noticed the old front silencer still in there.
The new lambda went in after ALL the welding was finished.. (I had to suggest they fit it last, in case the new bit of welding nuked that one too.. Hadn't occurred to them....
