More engine advice.
I one of my 1.6 boxers was run low on oil for a time period just before I bought it. From driving it and such, I don't think that the crankshaft is worn, it just seems that the tappets are noisy.
On startup, it sounds tappety and the distinctive clacking is heard when running idle.
The engine is very stong otherwise.
I have a spare engine in which that I feel the tappets are in better nick. Any advice for me on what I should do. The tappety engine has 70k on it, and the spare is 98k or so.
I don't mind spending time on the job of repairing the engine, but the closest I have come to such a job is a clutch replacement on the same engine!
What are you feelings... is it a straight-forward job? Will installing the tappets from the older engine be worthwhile...?
