The one I have in Toad's old car is bust. It must have got a knock and shorted, burned out a coil!
Anyway, I did some calculations and measurements on it. It turns out that the wire Maplin supply is not suitable for the job, being 0.3mm in diameter over the required 1.9mm which is on the coil. It would burn out rather quickly...
Anyway, it transpires that the resistor is designed to dissapate a load of 13W across both of the coils, (It's 1.7 ohms). What I am doing at the moment is just verifiing my maths (it's usually wrong) and I'll have a cheap bodge for you soon...
