Fluctuating idle speed/high idle speed 145 1.8 t-spark
More "brain-picking I'm afraid!
Have today had my 145 fully serviced and had new plugs fitted, both at Alfashop in Royston. Unfortunately, due to the M25/M11 traffic, I was late so they had no time to look into the problems described below.
I have 3 issues here which I suspect might all be related.
1) The car starts fine and idles at about 1200 rpm when cold, but if not driven off at once then after about 2 minutes the revs drop right off and it stalls. It starts again no problem with a turn of the key and the stalling problem goes away after a minute or so of actual driving.
2) After its warmed up and been driven a bit, the idle speed when stopped at traffic lights (or whatever) seems to fluctuate, intermittently, between about 1100 and 1500 RPM.
3) I am getting very intermittent misfires, seemingly after lifting off the power, and around 2800 rpm mainly (it feels sort of like a "flat spot" if you know what I mean). I drove 240 miles today and I reckon this occurred about half a dozen times - seems like a single misfire at a time and not a series of them but the loss of power is very noticeable from the small "jerk" it creates.
So after all that, am I right in thinking that 1100 is a pretty high idle speed in any case, does anybody have any advice as to whether these faults might be related, and what might be causing them?
Incidentally, apart from the above, I love this car which goes round corners like its on rails, just as I remember from my previous Alfas when I were just a lad........
Thanks for your help in advance, and I'd just like to say thanks to Alfashop who did a 60,000 main service including the plugs, AND the cambelt and peripherals, and a number of other little niggly bits (bulbs and the like) for £434.00 all up incl. vat! It was worth the 240 mile round trip just to avoid paying a Main Stealer a lot more - (and I got to drive the car a long way which is always a bonus!).
