Thanks for your replies. It has 95,000 on the clock nd history to back it up, although it hasnt had the service book stamped since 55,000. there are receipts for servicing parts in abundance however and this seems to confirm it has been serviced, but not by Alfa, since then.
I checked the sills as you suggest and no sign at all of any rust whatsoever. i collected it yesterday and drove it 120 miles home (quite slowly as not sure when cambelt last changed) and everything sweet as a nut, no clonks, rattles, strange whining noises, body roll at the back or front, or any other apparent faults except non functioning remote keys (no batteries in them but still operate c/l and immob. from door lock) and fast idle is a little high at around 1100 rpm but easily sorted. Anyway, going in to Alfashop in Royston today for belts/service/minor niggles so we'll see what else is wrong then I guess. So far, amazed at how clean it is considering age/mileage.
Oh yes, I paid £390 for it off ebay from a guy who obviously didnt realise that 3.15a.m is not a good time to have your auction finish.... there was only me bidding at that time despite over 50 "watchers"!
its going in toAlfashop in Royston today for belts etc and a service
