I have a 1998 145 1.8TS that I bought "for fun"
When I collected it, the battery was dead, but with a jump it started, but the alarm started up as well. I only have the red key for it, but it would not turn off the alarm and there was no little red light on the key when the button was pressed, so I assumed the key battery was dead as well. The key fits all the locks and the ignition.
Got it home, put a new battery in the key and a good one on the car and - the alarm goes off. The little red light lights up when the button on the key is pressed - but the alarm won't stop, and the central locking does not operate (I'm assuming it has central locking ??). I even tried operating the door locks with the key but they only work independantly and the alarm continues. The car starts and runs though !
What am I doing wrong ? Would the flat battery in the key/car have caused the key to "lose" the alarm ? Can this be sorted DIY ? The car is currently off the road (alarm problem aside, it has a suspected head gasket leak) so I can't take it anywhere to get it sorted !
