Bypassing the radiator fan resistor

Hey guys

Is there any way one can do this on a 146? Basically get the fan to kick in once the ignition is turned on. Not the healthiest things to do but unfortunately we cannot find the part anywhere, even second-hand? Most places only taking in new stock in the new year.

resistors very rarely go wrong....its most probably the connections.
You don't need a specific Alfa resistor...any resistor that has the same resistance (and max current rating) will do!

Don't forget your GCSE series R=R1+R2+R3
in parallel 1/r= 1/r1 + 1/r2 + 1/r3

That means you can get to any resistance using just a handful of common resistors

Thanks for the info. The reason why I say I know the resistor has gone is that I put the one from my 156 in and it worked.
Will have a go at it.

The resistor just gives you the low speed fan.
You can simply bypass by unplugging the two wires connected to it and connect those together.

The result will be that when the low speed fan is called, you will get the full speed fan.

It will not run all the time.

I set my 156 like that when the rad was on its way out to give it more cooling quicker and I've left it like it with the new rad.

Hi David

Thanks for the that. I eventually did as you suggested and it works well.
