Just an update on my brother's 146 while he calms down from a fuming rage!
Apparently the balance tensioner which was supplied by the dealer (Nissan) was faulty. As you try to start the car, the thing 'bounces'. We had the supplier check it out and he took it away for 'testing'. For now, we're only aware of 8 bent exhaust valves. Cambelt still looks okay, no missing teeth.
In your opinion, who is to repair the vehicle now, the place that originally did the job, or the dealer that supplied the part?
All my brother says is, he ain't paying!
This is starting to look pretty serious now. Without wanting to sound like the 'Prophet of doom'.
Firstly, if the garage that did the work is an authorised garage, they usually carry some sort of gaurantee on the work they do... This is worth checking out. If its not, then you looking at potentially having to pay for it yourself, unless you willing to go the legal route, which could take forever.
Secondly, to do a cambelt service on these cars you have to have the cam locks. Without them is simply going to a gun war with out bullets. So if they have got the timing a little out, there goes the valves and hopefully no further top end damage as well as possible bottom end damage.
You don't usually have to take it easy after they have changed the belts, so I think the chap that did the work was a little misleading there. And how can they prove that the balance tensioner was not faulty...? Sounds like bull**** to me....
It frustrates me to read about this sort of thing, its just really unfortunate.
Can anyone tell me more about the Balance Sensor?
Explain this a little please...? Not to sure what you might be referring to?
