147 idling and engine control system :(
Hi. Help/advice needed please.
I have just spent £460
to 'cure' a problem with no power. It started as a little hick-up and then progressed through huge flat-spots whilst on teeh motorway, to complete loss of power when starting, to the extene where it was very difficult to even get the car moving. This resulted in fitting a new air flow sensor and egr valve, only to find that I now have idling problems - acceleration is ok, and no flat spots, but constant speed at or under 2k revs feels like the car is misfiring. There were no warning lights on the dash, and no error codes present. Then, I had the engine control system warning light appear and wouldnt go off.
The control system failure error has been cleared (for the moment) but it has been suggested that the problem could be with the injectors because it starts to smoke when idling for more than about 20-30 seconds. Also, there is a distinctive unburnt diesel smell to the smoke.
I cant really aford the Alfa service charges but I fear that this may be the only option. Any advice welcomed.
