Help Alfa 146 Ti problem

I seem to be having a problem with my 146 ti. It will run perfectly for a while then out of the blue it will cut out and wont start again. I have had to be towed home 3 times now. The last time was from the RAC and the mechanic told me it was not getting a signal to spark and it was a common alfa fault but couldn't remember how to fix it. Does anyone know what exactly is wrong and how can it be fixed?

I had a 145 Clover Leaf that did this. (Same engine as the 146Ti). In my case, the fix was simple. It turned out to be the Crankshaft Position Sensor. These are readily available from places like SHOP4PARTS and I've since been told that this is quite a common problem on these engines.

Posts: 1,503 will be the Crank Position Sensor at fault. The engine won't restart while it's still hot but if you let it cool down then it will start again. This is caused by the faulty CPS breaking down internally at high temperatures.

If it's not the crankshaft sensor then you might want to check out the BBOB. I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the electrics under a cover in front of the battery (called the BBOB). I only found out about it cos these guys on here are so knowledgeable so it is most likely the crankshaft sensor but just to make you aware that it could be that as well

You can check out my thread here -

I hope you get it sorted as I know how frustrating it is to suddenly cut out and have to be towed home
