Just a quick question for the gurus out there.
Having owned my alfa for a little while now ive been researching a little on this forum. Ive discovered that the rattle from my 2.0 ts motor is a worn variator.
I had assumed the rattle was superficial (hydraulic buckets etc), as it only takes seconds to disapear but having read a number of posts on the variator i know mine has the classic symptoms of the variator being on its way out.
What i would like to know is:
1) How much longer is it likely to last?
2) Is variator failure gonna blow up the timing?
I want rid of the car but I do have a conscience, so as not to sell a 'time bomb' to some poor guy.
If the advise is to replace what special tools are a must? I am a qualified mechanic and have carried out many timing belts, but my alfa knowledge is very limited.
Thanks for your time and help.
