sticking handbrake

narrowed my squeeling whhels to a stickiny handbrake. anyway how do u realise it? is it a case of just slacken the hand brake nut ( under the gaiter i believe ) and pull the cable at the rear wheels to free the hand brake or do i have to take apart to release the handbrake??

basically can i just release the nut then jerk the cable from below to free the handbrake till i can replace the cables

Re: sticking handbrake

Its a common problem with these cars unfortunatley. Its worse when its a sharp frost!

Cause: Handbrake cables, they have small rubber seals that perish and let in water which in turn causes the cable to corrode and stick. The water gets in through the perished seals and settles into them which freezes solid during the winter months.

Solution 1: Get some new cables and make sure the garage pack them with some good silicon grease.

Solution 2: Park with the car in gear with the handbrake off

Re: sticking handbrake

As above, just replace them it's only a half hour job.
