REALLY crappy brakes - help!
The brakes on my 146 Boxer (non ABS, drum rears) have been a bit spongey for a while, and with the car being laid up for several months I thought I'd have a look at them. I put the poor pedal feel and braking down to a worn master cylinder - based on a previous car (not an Alfa)
I have fitted a brand new master cylinder and bled the entire system 3 times with a friend pumping the pedal, the last time I had the rear up on ramps with an Eezibleed attached and pumping the pedal - engine not running, but don't see what difference this would make?
The brakes are awful still and even stamping on them from about 30 just makes the car slow down gradually.
The front calipers are fine and move freely, as do the drums. I have checked all the joints / pipes and there are definitely no leaks anywhere.
I did notice the arm on the rear compensator valve (what a wierd looking thing that is!) was stuck solid. I have freed it up but the spring was missing so not it just hangs. Obviously I need another spring but I got a friend to press the brake pedal and the pin coming out of the valve tht sits against the arm only moves a small amount. Is this normal?
Any ideas on what could be wrong with my brakes and what I can do? I desperately need them sorting becuase it cannot be driven. It really doesn't stop!!
Thanks in advance for any help!
