Cam position sensor is on the exhaust cam which does not phase, it's purpose is to tell the ECU if the engine is on the ignition or exhaustion stroke for the #1 cylinder by comparing the signal from both the cam sensor and crank sensor. Nothing at all to do with the phasing of the cam, that is controlled by the crank speed sensor telling the ECU the rpm and the ECU actuating the Variator solenoind allowing the pressure through to the Variator and forcing internal gear against the spring and rotating the cam 25'. The movement of the inlet cam is never checked, only if the variator actuator actuated.
