Re: belt snapped help
Even with bent valves and engine will run, but if the cambelt sliped 2 or more teeth then the ECU will stop the signal to the coils because you have a difference in the signal from the cam and crank sensors.
But alas this sounds terminal, the fact you heard grinding confirms it's the cambelt tensioner that's exploded (get a pic if you can, I bet it's the plastic type), turning the engine over again on the key will only have worsened the damage, but you will need AT LEAST, Big end shells, 4 valves, 4 tappets, head gasket, tube of liquid gasket, oil, antifreeze, full cambelt kit, full balance belt kit, full Aux belt kit, Tools - M6, M8 & M10 Ribe, T20 T30 & T40 Trox, 7mm, 9/32", 10mm, 13mm, 14mm DD, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm, 21mm spannrs or sockets, cam locks 1.8/2.0, torque wrench, plug pliers, valve remover, stanley blade, philips, flat blade screwdrivers, piston ring compressor and finally a micrometer to check the crank big ends.
To strip the engine would be 3 hours with it in the car, and if the list above was all it required then the same again to rebuild it, the trouble is that you don't know what's needed till it's open.
