Stalls and revs irraticaly when warm
I took over an ***** 146 2.0 from my borther who recently emmigrated. The car was stood still on the road for about 3-4 months, before I took it off his hands.
Everything was fine, until about 6 weeks ago when the engine started stalling.
I thought it might have been a temp issue, but the temp has never gone above 90 ish since ive had it. The car was fully serviced by an ***** dealer in Sep last year, costing about 300 quid and has done about 5-6k since then. It has 52k on the clock, a T Plate.
Anyways, the car starts fine, always has plenty off pull, and goes all through the revs range. But, then once its fully warm, especially sat in traffic, as i come to stop and put the clutch in, the revs drop as they should but seem to miss the idle point and carry on down to 0 and stall on me. This doesnt always happen though. It just seems to happen at irregular intervals. Sometimes the revs will drop to nearly zero, and its almosat like the engine suddenly notices its gonna die, and then kicks in the revs, up to 2, 2.5k to compensate, and then eventually back to idle.
Ive been reading a lot on here about Mafs and Lambda sensors and stuff, but to be honest, I havent got a clue where to start. Its getting really annoying as i work in the city, and often it cuts out without me knowing, or just before pulling away, as then the power steering goes and i end up getting honked at by every car in sight.
I was thinking of going down to halfords and buying xome break cleaner and giving the MAF a good clean, is this a good idea?
Any help would be appreciated,
