146 remote control

I have recently bought Alfa Romeo 1.6 TS ('98.) and I am amazed with car. Have changed timing belt, variator, oil, filters (300€ here in Serbia) and I am very satisfied with Alfa service, but I have one question:

I have two red keys and one gray and on both red keys I have little remote control with red LED diode, and when I press button LED blinks in approximately 0.5sec interval, but nothing happens in car (I have central locking, but do not have alarm system).

Can anyone tell me where can I find some fuse, relay or receiving station for remote to check it?

BTW, does enyone have a manual which describes for what purpose are relays near the fuse box? I have few empty places without relays but with connectors.

Thanks in advance,
Ivan Mandic

Ivan, there are a few different types of fuse box, but I hope this helps...
If you've got a "long" fusebox, (6 or 7 relays long) then the door locking relay (code N11) is one up from the bottom on the left when the fuse box is hanging down (pull the latch the bottom toward you). If you have a "short" fuse box, (3 or 4 relays long) then the door locking relay is on the fuse panel behind the fuse box; pull the latch of the main fuse panel toward you to gain access. In addition, there may be an alarm fuse on the panel behind the fuse box, it will be yellow, code G258.

Incidentally, on the "long" fuse boxes, the top left relay position, and in some cases also the third relay position om the top row are empty. On the "short" fuse box, the third relay position on the bottom row is empty.

Good luck

Thanx Mave,
I will check is my fusebox long or short, but my central locking works fine when I use key directly in keyhole or when I use locking button on the inner side of the door, only remote control doesn't working.

Do you think that this is related to relay problem or maybe receiver is wrong /turned off, bad, disconnected/ (I checked fusebox and there is no fuse for remote /every fuse is described with little picture/)

Thanx again,

Send me a PM and I'll send you a troubleshooter for the key-fob.

The relay for central locking is longer then the other. If your relay is faulty the doors will NOT lock if you turn the key.
