Alternator problems 146ti

Does anyone have any idea how to check and/or replace the alterantor on a 2.0l 146ti? It seems impossible to get to! Battery light is on and it is not charging. Car has been standing for about 4 months, but before that all was ok.

I understand that fitting an alternator is quoted at approx 2 hours labour, so it's not an easy job.

I have been waiting for three weeks so far for an alternator for my 145QV, so if you need a new one good luck!

if the car has been standing around for some time the battery may have gone for a ****! borrow a friends battery off his car and try it on yrs. if the light goes out and it starts to charge then u know that yr battery is knacked.

if its not charging 9 times out of 10 its the diodo pack has gone, get a new one and some brushes and repair it yr self for a fraction of the price of a recon one.

In the past when my alternators have decided to stop working I always pray'ed it was the diode or bushes or worn/dirty commutator.... but it's always been one of the windings gone open circuit... and the break is never on the top layer

The only time it went on me was on a Fiesta. It was one of the three diodes and cost 40 to get repaired. Saw the guy repairing it also... that was great.

It's never the outside wire because these keep the coolest...!
