I'd like to be able to claim that my 145 is a Babe Magnet, or even a Ditch Finder, but it's more than that... a Door Finder! This is the second time I have been hit in the wing and creased two doors in the process!
Last night at 21:20, I was approching a narrow bridge on the way to Blessington (Firhouse road).
The bridge is very dangerous, it's at 90 degrees to the road from both sides, so you have to be very careful... anyway, I was being careful, and let a car cross as I approched. I then made my way onto the bridge, and as I was about to exit to take the 90 degree turn off. I saw a set of car lights come twords me at speed. I was unable to react when he came around the 90 degree bend, taking a racing line (cutting the corner by 5 foot) and hit me at approx 30MPH. I jerked the wheel and left a 1 foot skid mark on the bridge. I pulled up immediately (I was traveling at ~15MPH) and watched him in the mirror. It took him the length of the bridge to stop.
Anyway, jumped out and went over to his Xantia. He was a young lad (20 or 21) and was a bit shocked. He asked who's fault it was, I pointed out that it was plainly obvious that it was 100% his. He should have been almost stationary before crossing the bridge, and shouldn't have taken a racing line through a BLIND corner at ~30MPH!
Told him to turn off the engine, it sounded VERY rough (turns out that it was a diesel...
) and there was smoke coming from the engine bay. There was a strong smell of burning clutch, very strong. Pointed this out to him!
Anyway, damage to my car is moderate. Drivers side wing is heavily dented and pushed back 1cm into the drivers door. Indicator is brokem, main beam/dipped is out of allignment. Bumper (which I spent so long respraying) is cracked (but intact). Must say these bumpers are very strong!
Damage to his is a little more significant, front lamp is broken, wing is dented, drivers and passangers door is dented, trims are on the road.
So... the 145 saga continues. rant
