Anyway, after installing a nice and beefy Pioneer unit, it was discovered that the speakers are of refuse quality.
Any recommendations folks ? I am thinking of replacement units, although the normally obvious route would be via a sub-base tube - but this is a dinky car, with space at a premium.

Xtreme's vibes and Vp3 kit would be a good start, I'm a major fan of Infinity and Boston Accoustics for speakers. The Boston subwoofers are brilliant and only need a very small box (about 0.5 cuft) better than any bass tube out there, which are to say the least flawed devices at best. I had infinity reference units fitted to the 4 doors of my 156 (components at front/co-ax's at the rear)for a brilliant all round sound driven off some rockford fosgate amps (with a boston sub in the boot).
I'd also reccomend looking at some sound deadening to avoid the shaz & trev effect (you know thwump thump tizzz rattle, rattle shake).
have a good look around car audio direct
for some good kit, good service and decent prices, they also have a very active forum with some very helpful people.
