OK Guy's, I have a really wierd electrical problem going on and could do with some advice from someone who's up on car electrics!
Anyway, here's the problem:-
Last summer (about this time) the temp guage on my 145QV started behaving strangly. When you started off it would read fine, but after a while would start going up or down depending if the fan or any other electrical items (eg aircon) were running. For example if the lights were turned on the temp reading would go up! My local specialist had a look but could not find the problem, but did report that the ECU was getting the correct reading from the temp sensor.
This went of for quite a while, but then stopped in the Autumn. However IT'S BACK
Although I am aware of the problem, it's still pretty disconcerting to drive down the road with the temp guage reading 130 eek! eek!
I have found that if the engine is turned off while reading 130, then turned back on straight away the guage will read 90 (normal) for a while before wanderinbg off again. The red warning light does not come on.
Can anyone give me any help here? Does it sound like a connection problem (surprise, surprise), or is the guage knackered (£300+ for new instrument cluster). As it only seems to happen in the summer I presume that it's heat/humiduty related.
Any advice greatfully recieved
