Urgent Help!! Oil In Cooling Water?? Headgasket??
I'll tell you the story, My heater matrix went and at the same time my oil cooler (the two pipes on the top of it) decided it had had enough, the pipes were that badly corroded and leaking I had to change that aswel.
So, while I was waiting for my heater matrix to arrive I drained my expantion tank and fitted a new oil cooler (secondhand BUT its shiney new - well, as new, and not a mark on it!).
I fitted this ok and filled up the expantion tank with fresh water (no coolant as I still had to fit heater matrix and would be a waste of coolant when I drain it again) and blead the system (left cap off for 10mins while it ticked over and pumped the radiator hoses). That went fine.
Next...My heater matrix arrives - Excellent!
I took the cap off of my expantion tank and there it is... Oiley, black, grey water...
At this point im thinking ***** sake - Headgasket gone!!
But I havent really been 'ragging' the car so im quite puzzled.
I fitted the new heater matrix after flushing the system with the hose pipe.
Blead the system again - Clean water...then slowly but surely it starts going merky and black and oiley again..
So I then thought to my self "DOGEY OIL COOLER??"
So, I bypassed the oil cooler by putting a link / pipe accross the x2 pipes which go into the top of the oil cooler...flushed the system of merky oiley water again and Heypresto!!!......MERKY OILEY WATER IS BACK AGAIN!!
I took the oil filler cap off and its black oil - not creamy or anything so im still not sure if its the headgasket?
Where abouts could the oil be getting into the water? Because I have establisted its not a faulty oil cooler where could it be coming from?
The car runs fine and drives the same so I really confused as what to do...
Has anyone had a similar problem before??
Please someone get back to me as I know no-one who knows anything about alfas in my area!!
