Whilst driving back from Pizza Hut our P reg 146 Ti kicked out of gear, stalled and died. The RAC man said there was no compression in the engine, the plugs were dry and it was seriously ill. Our Alfa has cost us money (lots) in the past, but we didn't care - it is a dream to drive, exciting and totally cool... but to fail us like this!!! Bits drop off all the time, but it has never indicated to us it's gonna die completely. Has anyone ever had to replace the entire engine before? And finding a decent garage (that doesn't shaft us) that isn't scared of Alfas in the Plymouth area is almost impossible.
So Sorry to hear about ur motor. Hopefully it is not too serious. Check the brakers yard section in the local Auto trader and see if u can pick up a l8r model 156 2.0ts (not JTS)with not a lot of miles that has had a rear ender. Any competent garage should be able to swap the engine, then get the cam belt done. If it is a cam belt failure hopefully u have just bent a few valves. But check the price u may find that it is cheaper to swap the engine than have urs re-built. U can always pick up another car quite cheaply now (another option). I have just been to the auction with a friend who picked up a 1 owner V reg 146 1.8ts with 35K miles for 3.5k. I know it is expensive but u have to balance it out against a possible £1-2K bill for the repair.
