Now it all makes sence. I have a large coil under my engine coolant bottle, and it's for cooling the power-steering fluid alright. It's rusted!

Does anybody know what the little coil of wire to the front of that is for? Is it for dimming the lights? It's about 3cm x 3cm x 6cm...

If you have ever driven a Seicento with aircon, then you know that it takes quite a lot (relatively) of the power. I think an often quoted figure is about 5bhp. Previous to the variable compressor described by Fabrizio, I think the compressor had an on/off clutch arrangement and the engine management system compensated for this when the car was stationary by raising the idle revs.
