have you tried takign the boot off and just spraying a load of WD40 onto the base of the gearstick?
Is the sound coming from the stick, or from elsewhere? Could be somethign rubbing somewhere along the linkage?
I've only ever taken the boot off to clean the dust off it, I'm trying to think what I could see below it. Can't think of anything you could do apart from the oil. Maybe the squeak is coming from lower down, under the car where the lever attaches to the linkage.
My squeak sounds very rubbery. I sprayed loads of wd40 down there once before, but to no avail. Mine feels like it could be further down the linkage, but how do you access it? I assume it runs under the floor?
