This may or may not help -- it's one more thing to check anyway...
Over the weekend I was trying to find out why my 146 dipped headlights no longer work after a visit to a main dealers. Turned out the relay had gone missing while the car was in with them for an unrelated repair - are they an alfa dealer or a scrap yard??? Don't get me started...
Anyway, rant over - onto the relevant bit.
To repair the lights, I moved what looked like an unused, unmarked, spare relay into position and hey presto, there was light. I was a bit paranoid about the removal though and checked all the electrics to make sure they still worked.
However on driving away, the injector warning light came on, and stayed on. A quick u-turn and back in with the relay - I believe it may have been for the fuel pump.
The relay in question was yellow, about 3cm cubed. It was in the relay assembly under the steering wheel (beside the fuses), in the bank nearest the back of the car.
If this relay were acting up without failing completely, it might give the symptoms you describe.
Tune it to V6 FM...
