Re: OBD II Codes

Hi,
A fantastic reference point so thanks for putting it together.
I'm getting error code P1745 and P1746 on my 147 as the selespeed is not engaging gear (apart from 2nd only). Oil, pumps etc all check out and then got the diagnostic codes.
Any ideas what this error relates to and what the recommended fix would be?

Re: OBD II Codes

Hi,

I've just had the cambelt changed on my V6 (after the last one let go early). Had to have the valves on cylinder two replaced and the car had a early 60K service with new plugs while it was apart.

Since I picked it up though it's been idling very rough- and it sounds alot like a modded rotary engine on idle, fuel consuption has gone up by 5% and I got a Engine Control System Failure warning which is becoming less frequent now but comes on with low revs especially when cold. The fault code for this is 'P0306 Cylinder 6- see diagnostic section Table Z 53'

Garage has been pretty useless so far (still miffed they returned my car in this state!)
The codes above say misfire on cylinder 6;
Anyone have any ideas on the Diagnostic table?

Sounds kinda like this, but a bit throatier obviously- YouTube - RX7 IDLE

Could be a failing coil pack?

Re: OBD II Codes

Well turns out, as I suspected, that the timing on the front exhast cam was out (9 degrees). Nothing to do with the electronics, they just didn't know what to make of the symptoms.

Take out the 4 coil packs and very carefully check all around the casings of each one for any hairline cracks. This cracking of the coil pack housing is known to happen on the Twin Spark engines and can result in misfiring.

the P1155 code on the 145/146 is an Alfa specific code which means Lambda, it's because this ECU was programmed before the standardization so not all codes will match the generic ones of the later models.

Hi, is there any DIY way of retreiving these codes, somebody mentioned plugging into a laptop? or the old bit of wire between 2 terminals and counting the blinks?

My problem, steady engine light and loss of power

Cheers.

Fault code reader recommendation

Dear Smaky

I have a 2005 alfa 156 1.9 jtd mjet that is, I think, 140bhp rather than 150 bhp. I am looking for a fault code reader to read the warning "motor control failure go to dealer" I've seen readers on ebay for as little as 15..but I'm not sure which one to get, do you have a recommendation please?

Thanks

Rob

P1238 "air quantity"

Folks, does any one have experience of this fault code, it is associated with the motor control system failure light coming on on starting up my 2005 156 1.9 mjet, otherwise there are no other symptoms of a problem.

Thanks

Rob
