Hi - not stupid, its an automatic reaction! I would have assumed the same. Though when this garage DID call the main dealer when they realised it had to be an original part, they (Bryan Brothers, Bristol) took 10 minutes to answer! At least they are keeping the Alfa Dealer flag flying!
Anyway, its a good point, I will go for it, but if it goes badly i'll back down, 'cos if i get in the mood that I'll never use them again, I have no where else to go that I trust. (Okay they screwed up this time, but to date they have been A1 quality and cheap, and the head mechanic really knows his stuff - unlike the receptionist that orgered the part). I can't cope with losing battles I start, but as I've cut off my nose despite my face a few times before, I'm now careful about which ones I fight.
To their (small) credit, my car failed the MOT on a brake light, which they fixed for a quid, even though the price list said 3.20 plus 1.20 fitting charge.
Also, worryingly, they said my chassis had been damaged by improper jacking - not a fail, just something they needed to tell me - they say its not a problem, but I'm now going to get neurotic about it!
