164 2.0TS valve clearence + circuit use

Hi guys,

I'm preparing a 164 for (low-budget) circuit use. The engine obviously should be in perfect state and I haven't adjusted the valves yet and the sound of the engine definetly tells me it should be done. I can't seem to find the values on the net, so can somebody tell me what the valve clearences should be for a 164 2.0TS ('92) ?

Any tip for circuit use would be welcome.
At the moment I only removed the cat and airfilter. I also removed the interior, placed race seats + belts, and dit some maintenence but that's about it...

(sorry for my poor english, I'm from The Netherlands)

For circuit use i would change the springs for lowered and stiffer ones with dampers to suit. I would also change all the rubber bushes to polyurethane ones, change the rubber brake lines to s/s braided ones, put some new discs and uprated track pads on and change the brake fluid to one with a higher boiling point than standard DOT 4 or whatever is in there now. Put some good engine and gearbox oil in it too. That should about do it for light track day use.

Your English is just fine!
Inlet .38 to .45mm Exhaust .43 to .5mm.
Have you checked the timing chain tension?

Thanks for the tips!

I'm afraid my budget is a little too small for springs + dampers, at least for now. (I'm a student! wink ). I will(partially) update the brakes, at least the pads and fluid.

Timing belt has been adjusted, thanks for the valve values...

Where can I find the gearbox oil change plug?

And any cheap engine improvements? Like emission regulators, I've read something about removing the carter>intake breather??

Here's a pic of the car at "buy-status". Completly standard and much too luxurious for track use... Costed only 200,- !! (has some damage on the right side)

If you're interested, I could post some pic's when it's "ready" to race...

I thought the 92 had the early chain driven cams.Yours must be one of the earliest belt drive engines. Forgotten the exact location of the gearbox drain. However, it has two drain plugs, one for the gearbox itself and one below the differential. There is a common filler which incoporates a dipstick.
