does anyone know where I can obtain the electric (& electronic) wiring diagrams for a 164 - I'm starting to get the dreaded ***** electrical problems & it appears that Haynes don't do a manual for this model
Wiring diagrams for the TS are not commonly available but believe it or not if you call Alfa Customer services and tell them what you want they will arrange for them to be sent to you in the post!! You will need to be very specific about which diagram you want and have your chassis number to hand.
Mike I have three problems; 1)the spyball Alarm makes a continuos noise & also doesn't lock the doors anymore. I'm working on possibility that it might be bad connections in the car rather than a fault with the alarm! 2)the fan has stopped working in the climate control unit & I don't know which wires to trace so I can't demist the windows & finally the window washer reservoir indicator light stays on permanently even when full. Other than that I love the car :-) Do you have the address/phone number, email etc. of Alfa Customer Services
I would ring them, the number is on the main Alfa site. You will have to be very patient with them as they are customer service agents not technicians The washer fluid level thing is quite common and usually requires a new sender unit. Luckily Alfa have just reduced the price on many 164 parts by an average of 40% so if you need any news bits you might save some money.
Your a brave man if your gonna atempt to rectify wiring faults on the 164! I have a few electrical probs myself, like the eletric mirrors that have never worked in the 3 years ive had the car because there is no power to them even though ALL the fuses and relays are in place and ok
And how can i forget the electric rear seats which i removed from the car, cleaned and lubed all the moving parts put back in and they worked!!!! - until i went to show them off to a work collegue 3 days later and both refused to moved an inch I could go on but im getting depresed already
The 164 does have some gremlins yes but I think most owners love to hate the wiring because it is not as simple to fix problems as most other cars. Saying that, any decent auto electrician will be able to get to the bottom of any electrical problems, at least that's my experience.
164's came with lots of electrical toys so you have to expect some issues after a good few years on the road.
I have found 164 ownership to be a love/hate relationship, when they work properly they are awesome cars but they can bring tears to the eye (and the wallet) of some if you get a bad-un.
Ok , i feel a litle better , yes i know that all italian cars have electrical problems , but nothing big , this is my fourth alfa , and i like the car very much . Yes the dashboard seems like a cockpit from a airplane , but i like that so many buttons to push , and lights . But is a very beautiful car , with a perfomance that i can't think is possible in a car so big .
