Twinspark Deisel?

I have 145 QV with the 2.0l twinspark.

When I start it first thing it sounds fine, actually quite sweat considering it's cold. But once warm it sounds very deisely at idle.

I have read something which leads me to think this may be due to the variator, can anyone confirm on deny this belief?

When you rev the engine it sounds fine yes ?
If so it sounds like the variator alright.

i'm going to have to agree with toad, i'm sorry.. I'm going through the same problem a.t.m. if you need any info on this refer to the topic entitled 'a little rattle-ey' in the 155 etc forum site. i can however inform you that alfa time for this job is 4.5 hours, and the parts required are as follows:
sealing gasket, A0060607218
advance variator, A0060666199
support, A0060607962
sealing gasket, A0060607219
c/s oil seal, A0040004400
c/s seal, 0060811144
timing belt, A0060814319
trans belt, A0060812382
the cost of all these items has been quoted as 239.86 pounds ex vat, these are for my 155 2.0 16v TS so it might be different, but i hope this helps, good luck
