Very bad news i'm afraid. At least i think so! This happened to my 8V and a friends 8V as well, although in our cases it was the rear doors.I'm not sure if the 16V do it, but i think the mechanism is the same, so maybe.
In our cars it was the actual door lock, which has the central locking motor incorporated, which means its an expensive lock to replace. I was lucky and had the think jam unlocked, but my friend had his locked for ages...you just have to wait for it to suddenly unlock one day!
Perhaps if you remove the seat, and then try to get the door panel off (if you can) you might be able to coax the lock to unlock the door, so you can then remove the bolts and change the lock. It's an easy job as long as you can get the door open! Good luck, and i hope i'm wrong and its something really silly and cheap!
