The wife has just arrived home on the back of a Tow truck after her 145 did a pretty reasonable impression of a geyser on the A12, its dark and i cant see but the RAC guy ( who were pretty good by the way) thought it was either Thermostat or head gasket - guess what i'm hoping for. Anyone know where the Thermostat housing is on the 2.0l Cloverleaf ? - Cheers Andy
Follow the top hose on the radiator back to the engine and you will find the thermostat. Unlikely to be the cause of the problem though, go to your dealer/specialist and get them to check it out using a chemical block test. This checks for the presence of carbon monoxide in the coolant and diagnoses a blown headgasket very accurately.
Thanks Numan, whipped it off and it was shot, it was stuck closed but caused all sorts of problems. Had it into a dealer who did some work but warned me the head gasket was looking very dodgy. Decided it was tiome to PX - just pasid over a grand for a new gearbox on my spider - didint fancy having to do the same for the 145 !
