A friend of mine has just completed a project on his Fiat Tipo 2.0 16v (the car is almost mechanically identical to the Alfa 145.)
His has fitted a 2.0 8v turbo engine from a Lancia Dedra Turbo into his Tipo with a few extra modifications, Abarth camshafts, bigger injectors, water-spray for oil cooler and intercooler, uprated antiroll bars etc.
The results are phenominal. Approximately 200bhp and 230 lb ft of torque. The car just flies, with very little lag. It almost seems like a n/a engine (about 2.8 litres !)
Anything is possible, it doesn't even have to be an Alfa engine, as long as you have the ECU, wiring loom, gearbox etc.
He'll soon be working on a Tipo with a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo engine transplant (220bhp standard) which he hope to squeeze about 280bhp out of. Whether fwd can handle this sort of power is another matter ofcourse !
The Tipo 8v Turbo is up for sale for about £4,000 if anyone is interested. It's got Recaros and ABS. Email for more details in you're interested.
