Halfords sell these long tube spanners about 8" long - they're like the sort you get in a lawnmower toolkit - fairly thin, rough-cast tin plate job with a cast plug socket and rubber grommet at one end and a round tube with a T-bar hole at the other.
They're not too brilliant (a bit soft) but I was faced with a couple of plugs (1 & 3) that looked like they'd been in there for 100 years and just wouldn't shift. The standard plug spanner was just too short to grip the plugs well enough and give me enough leverage.
This Halfords spanner was so cheap (less than £5) that I thought even if it gets wrecked so I can't ever use it again it'll be worth it (I'd just spent £40 on plugs after all).
Hopefully if I give the new plugs some regular TLC that beat up spanner will give me a few more plug-sets worth of service.
