I think that I have traced the source of the "creaking". Like I said, I had new wishbones fitted last year and what I think happened is that when they fitted them two things must have gone wrong both on the rear bushing on the passenger side:
- The outer nut stripped
- The inner nut did not pull the bushing down to seat firmly on the sub frame.
Could also explain the uneven wear on the nearside tyre too!
I discovered this t'other evening & started to try to do something about it - well you've guessed, I managed to strip the thread on the other nut!!!!
So today I took the bolts out & replaced them with M10s that my kind garage (not the one that fitted the wishbones) gave me.
It is better but I still have a bit of a creak & I think I still need to pull the inner one up tighter but I am wary of stripping yet another nut.
So I have one question - does anyone know where to get high tensile strength M10 bolts & nuts?
Also, a bit of advice for Kelv & anyone who still has a creak after replacing wishbones - take a close look at the fixing bolts for the bushings. Make sure they are pulled up properly but be very wary of stripping the threads in those captive nuts (as mentioned on the posting from the 145/146 Forum mentioned above).
