sticking caliper (SuperNuman pls read)

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a squeeling noise coming from the front passenger side brakes. i can only hear it going at slow speeds. once i put the brakes on gently it stopps.

But this morning, when i arrived at work i looked at the disk, and it is discoloured, and the calipor looked blue, like it has overheaten. (i swear i could hear the brake fluid boiling)

The rust rim that is usually on the outside edge of the disc has been completely worn away

Is there a common cause for the calipers to stick like this ?

Do you think it could just be something like the sliders have seized ?

This is a common problem it seems on all 90's Alfas. Both 155's i have owned had this problem.
Youre right about the sliders. They have rubber boots which either perish or come off and allow water to wash away the grease. The result being corroded sliders which seize the caliper. You can strip the caliper down , clean up the sliders and re-apply the grease. But make sure the rubber boots are properly re-attached otherwise you will be doing this job again in a few weeks.
Good Luck

You can normally tell if brakes have overheated as the contact face has a blueish tint to it and the rust on the outer circumference of the disc turns dark pink rather than its normal rust colour.
Check sliders and stuck pads, always replace overheated brake linings as the overheating makes the compound of the pad unstable and liable to disintergrate.
To be honest it is very rare for a front caliper to have this problem, normally it is the rears having the handbrake stick causing this kind of fault.

Thanks for the replys.

I have had to take tomorrow off, so that i can take a look at it.

I suppose the worst it will get is new pads, disc's and rubber hose.

Planning to change those eventually, anyways
