Oil pressure on 1.8 Silverstone

My oil pressure has slowly got lower & lower over the few years I've owned the car, now when hot (oil @ ~70 water @ ~80-90) oil pressure at idle is 0 bar rising to 2-2.5 bar @ 3000 rpm.

Is there any easy way to check if the sensor is faulty or is it more likely something more serious. Oil consumption is normal & quite low. Is there anything else I need to check before it goes bang?!

You can put a analogig oilpressure gauge,
and test pressure. It should be about two bar at idling and higher revs about over four bar.
My car has over two bar at idling and four bar in higher revs.137tkm on the clock.

A lot of these faults on Alfas are faulty senders.

I had my oil pressure drop quite a lot once on a previous 155, and it was just a faulty sender.

Also check your oil filter. If it has become clogged for whatever reason, the bypass inside will open (this could also be faulty, BTW) and drop the oil pressure. If you haven't changed your oil for a while, take the opportunity now and change the filter (use decent one, not a cheapo)

I agree with Vish, the sender is usually the problem. Mine is still showing no pressure on idle sometimes, but is better now since a full service last week. If the oil light comes on as well though this will mean NO OIL! the guage and oil light are on seperate circuits so you only really need to worry when they're both on.
Really must get round to changing my sender sometime.
