10mph, even when parked
I rue the day I put my Alfa 145 into a local garage instead of my usual Alfa specialist. In the process of fitting a new clutch, the dorks managed to destroy the speedo sensor by prizing it open with a screwdriver. As for the reason why, one can only imagine. The upshot being, that my speedometer is permanently stuck at 10mph, whether I am doing 70 or whether I am parked. The only advantage to all this, is that my odometer is also broken, meaning I have not put any mileage on since the screw-up. My main problem is, apart from driving a car in which I have to guess how fast I am going as well as it being, I believe, an MOT failure, is that no-one can source the unit. My regular mechanic, an Anglo-Italian who could normally source anything to do with the make of car, has been unsuccesful (despite his bravado promises) as, according to him, they do not make them anymore. It seems that my only option is to try and get one from a breakers. If anyone can asist or advise, I would appreciate it. Also, there seems to be a scarcity of Alfa garages in the (SE) London area and I would appreciate it if any other sound Alfa mechanics could be recommended. It's always good to have to have a back-up.
