Ever get the feeling that something is very wrong?
Not sure what to make of this, my 145 has had a couple of issues since i got it but these have been fixed and she has been running pretty well since then, but a few things lately have got me worried.
First of all is the radiator. it is badly corroded and in despirate need of replacement, Not a problem. easy enough fix for me and won't cost the earth.
The thing that has really started to worry me though, lately at idle the engine revs don't seems as "sharp" as they once where. Small throttle movements result in only a few hundred rpm increase (whereas every other car that doesn't belong to me seems to jump up by 1000rpm). This would not normally bother me but there has also been an unusual noise from the engine bay lately. mainly when the car is warm. I cant realy describe it, it sounds like a very low pitched screeching noise. it only happens at idle - 1400rpm when under no load. it is on its 3rd timing belt and that is due at the end of this year so i hope it is not that.
It could be the alternator pully as i know these are prone to siezing or it could be the power steering pump because it already makes a higher pitched screech when stationary (and goes when i turn the wheel). Add to this that the car just isn't as perky as it used to be on the road. Don't get me wrong, it is still very fast and pulls from very low revs, but sudden throttle inputs just don't make it leap to attention like they once did. it is only very subtle but enough to make me notice.
i know the variator is buggered (after 2.2 years!!) so i am thinking that has finally got to the stage where the power losses begin, but even then, i can't help but be paranoid. this is an alfa after all.
The problem is, i can't do anything about this. i am still waiting on a 3rd party insurance payout for the rear ender i had in november. untill i am certain they will pay out, i can't spend ANYTHING on the car. she is due a service in 300 miles so i will give her an oil change on sunday, but that is all i can do.
Sometimes i don't know what to do, should i be worried?
