Hi all, first post so if I miss any info let me know and will post to best of knowledge.
OK, I have an Alfa 146 R-Reg 1.8 TS. When I bought it I got a dark red key with remote locking/alarm button and a burgundy key only. Still have both keys, and up until tonight I had been using the remote key without problems. It arms/disarms the alarm, locks/unlocks the doors without a problem.
However, tonight I returned to my car after work and when I pushed the button on the key the doors opened, the alarm disarmed, then immediately they all reversed again. Pushed the button again and the doors unlocked and the lights flashed and beeped, so I got in. Alarm sounded. Pushed button on key again and doors locked and alarm shut up (assumed it armed as it was single beep to signal armed/locked), pushed again to unlock/disarm and nothing.
Now I am sitting like a twit in the middle of a busy car park looking like a car thief lol.
No matter how hard I pushed the button on the key, it would not turn off the alarm, or work the doors. Red light flashed on the key to show it was working, but no reaction from the car.
After about 20 mins of me sitting in the car dismantling the key fob the alarm seemed to stop its cycle of going off, and I was able to drive home (the key worked the ignition no problem).
To note, I tried an old Citroen trick of putting the key in the ignition, turning to position 2, holding the button for a while etc trying to reset the key recognition - all to no avail.
Got home, opened the door and the alarm went off, but no sound. Still no reaction to the remote on the key.
I am not sure what needs to be done to rectify this.
I have an apparently working remote key that ellicits no reaction from the car, and no idea what to do next.
Any help you can provide would be most appreciated. For my partners sanity as well as mine, as I am "borrowing" her car until I can get my baby fixed.
Even if there was a "manual" way of disarming the alarm using the key in the lock it would help for the short term (my partners Focus you just hold the key in the "lock" position for 3 seconds and it arms the alarm etc).
To answer a few questions that may arise,
No, I dont have a small circle key thing mentioned in other posts for the boot lock approach.
No, I dont have the manuals etc supplied when car was new so no way to reference them.
and No, I unfortunately dont have access to a workshop, lift, or anyone with those sorts of things if I need to get under the skin of the car.
