angry windscreen wipers

hi all

i've just got a 95 145 and the one thing that strikes me as weird is how aggressive the windscreen wipers are?
im coming from a bmw background (which is more like a gentle virgin brushing the water off the screen), to a alfa (which is more like a russian prison guard beating it off)

is this a feature or something which could be fixed?

Nope, it's just a feature. They are all aggresive, but if they judder then the motor needs cleaning; search this forum for threads on the subject

Re: angry windscreen wipers

Welcome

you might want to elaborate on 'aggressive'

if you mean they are sticking and juddering, then you've got grease in the wiper motor - a common problem on most 155/145/146ers

check here for the full SP - the procedure is pretty much the same on all of the above models

good luck

Re: angry windscreen wipers

When i mean aggressive, the speed and velocity at which they move accross the screen is, well, weird.

Its not a smooth motion and more like CLUNK --> CLUNK (god its hard to explain a sound using text)

i guess it should be a smoother motion.

its off to get the cambelt changed next week at Veloces, so ill ask them

thanks

Re: angry windscreen wipers

Sounds about right.
The motor just has one speed with varying levels of intermittancy, and the acton is quite... well, raw. The wipers should sweep smoothly, it's the stopping and changing direction that's rough. If the wipers are juddering across the screen at all you either need to change the wipers or clean the grease off the motor (do a search, it's a common problem), and if the wipers are actually knocking the bonnet then they need adjusting.

Re: angry windscreen wipers

I know what you mean they shoot across the screen at lightspeed normally spraying more onto the windscreen in the process

I think its ok though you get used to it.

Re: angry windscreen wipers

It was changed on the later models, so the wipers do actually move more slowly at intermittant and there is a proper 'slow continuous'. I always thought that just varying the delay on the high speed was a bit 'cheap'.

Re: angry windscreen wipers

Johne,

'Cheap' and 'character' are not two interchangable words...

"I always thought that just varying the delay on the high speed was a bit 'cheap'."
Should read...
"I always thought that just varying the delay on the high speed was 'character'."
