Front door position adjustment

Hi all
I'm thinking about adjusting the position of the driver's door this weekend - recently I noticed that it has dropped down a few millimeters and doesn't close as firmly as it should. From the guides it seems like a straightforward job, just loosen a bit the nuts holding the hinges to the car body, shift the door, and tighten the nuts again. (And repeat as needed until you get it right.) Still I have a couple of questions that I hope you would help me to answer.
First, what is actually the size of the nuts? Reading around, it looks like I should need an allen key size either 10 or 13 millimeters, but I didn't figure out which of these it actually is.
Second, according to the Alfa manuals I would need a special tool 1.822.120.000. I kind of hope I wouldn't and I am instead planning to try just a regular L-shaped hex key, maybe cut short if needed. Has anyone done this and can they confirm that it will work?
Thanks in advance for any response

Jan

As far as I know you're not adjusting the door itself here but rather the closing mechanism (the metal part) on the B pillar. That's what I was successfully playing with on my 156.

Just realized you're from Czech republic. Why are we discussing in English and on UK based forum?

Beats me Might have something to do with this site (and the forum.alfa145.com) being about the best Alfa forums I know about
Plus I don't know if the admins allow for non-english discussions here, since that would seriously reduce its usefulness to most of the members

I had a similar problem with my '99 146, turned out to be a corroded top hinge had to remove the door and weld it, all sorted now

Bazman146: Looking quickly around the door hinges there doesn't seem to be any corrosion, so hopefully mine's still doing good in this regard!
I brought my hex keys to the car one morning to at least check the size, and it seems to be 10mm, but damn, that space is tight, even with the door fully open, and the hinge itself is in the way! Does anyone know of any tricks for that (aside from taking the door off completely)? Looks like I'll have to buy a new 10mm L-shaped key and cut it down a lot, and still I'm not sure if it will fit. On the pictures in the repair manuals it always looks so easy

Update: Resolved - turned out it wasn't the hinge that was loose, but just the door catch (luckily - much easier to get to). So after ten minutes of loosening/adjusting/tightening the catch I got he position right, and the door now shuts fully as it should.
And I didn't even have to buy any new tools - the screws are regular 5mm allens
