Pretensioner exploded

My seatbelt has become a bit reluctant to go back to rest after use. So I removed the rear side panels from inside the car and started to undo the 17mm bolt so I could have a better look at the mechanism. I thought I'd be ok to free it up a bit.
Anyway there was a very loud bang and my finger got hit by some flying debris!
It appears that I set off the pretensioner.
Ouch. Now of course the seatbelt is defunct and I need a replacement.
Does anyone have any experience of these units? I'm concerned that buying a used one off eBay may be futile. As it could be set off in the post??

Any ideas.

Paul

Yoinks! I forgot there is a pre-tensioner doodah in the seatbelt.

Theoretically I'd imagine that it would be illegal to send an explosive package through the post... but these things have to be transported around somehow.

Maybe you could track one down near you and then go to collect it? That way you'd also be able to check it's still "live"...

Yea there should be some restrictions on postage due to explosives. I know when we send seat belts back for warranty we have to set them off first or parts department will not take them.

Cheers guys. Alfashop have a new one that they're posting out. It has an anti-tamper device fitted so it can't go off in the post. !!

Woohoo.
