On the race Sud 20-years ago, but changed to full length soon after due to noise limits.

Don't do it on a road car!

would be for track use anyway. ive seen a few cars with them on but dont really know what difference it could make. is it the gases/fumes leaving quicker ?

They're shorter so are less restriction. I know someone else who put one on a road car but it didn't stay on the car for very long!! If it's for track use then be aware of any noise limit restrictions that some tracks impose because you may end up falling foul of those restrictions with a side exit system.

Which is why we all went back to full length systems a very long time ago.
That was for normal race noise limits.
Trackday noise limits are even lower, to the extent that some std 911 systems fail a static test due to background engine noise!
Unless you only go to unsilenced Donington trackdays...

My fried with his intagrale has used the valve from the rear of a BMW silencer to build a side exit that can be open and closed from the dash
