Re: Q4 engine in to 145

It can be done. Seen a 1996 146ti with the Q4 engine here in Malaysia. Running front drive only.
Your problems will start with mating the gearbox with the Q4.

Clutch will need to be upgraded.

Results are definately a fast car with better handling than the Fiat Coupes.

Re: Q4 engine in to 145

the 2.0 16v turbo from a fiat coupe is a much easier swap as the coupe is fwd to start with.

Re: Q4 engine in to 145

This is alfacem's completed 145 with the Q4 engine in...

Turbo 145 in Turkey

And this is AJ's 145 with a Fiat Coupe 16vt engine in...

Fiat 16vt Engined 145

The process for fitting the Q4 should be similar to fitting the 16vt as it's basically the same engine although you would need to do something with the front differential / transfer box if you're not planning to run it in 4WD setup. The differential, transfer box & gearbox from a Coupe engine might fit but I'm not 100% sure if the mounting points for those items on the Q4 and 16vt are exactly the same. You would need to see both engines side-by-side to be sure.

Re: Q4 engine in to 145

There is also a coupe with Integrale running gear on the Fiat Coupe forum. 155Q4 running gear should be a fairly easy swap to a 145, the rear sub frame should go straight on. Also Dedra Integrale running gear is a direct fit (with some minor modifications required) - but good luck trying to find one!

Q4 engine is the same as the coupe 16vt (which is an easy fit). The transfer box I'm not sure on - if anything you might need to drop it for the Coupe final drive, or just get a coupe box.

You'll also need the hubs, brakes and struts as they are all bigger than the standard 145 stuff.

Websites are like arseholes, everyone has one, and im wary of any bloke trying to direct people into their's

Re: Q4 engine in to 145

The 16VT will be a better swap. It can be made as fast if not faster than the 20V, it is also smaller, and weighs less than the 20VT.

The 20VT with gearbox weighs about the same as the Alfa V6 with gearbox.

The 16VT will be about 40kg lighter. Its still heavier than the TS though.

The only problem is 16VT engines in good order are rare, and things like cranks are expensive as they cannot be reground.

You will also need to upgrade the springs due to the extra weight. I suppose the Fiat coupe items could be used though. The fiat also has thicker anti roll bars than the QV.

The cranks can actually be reground if they're still within tolerence as long as they are re-nitrided again by someone who knows how to do that properly.
