Not Happy boxer died on me tonight :(

right where should i start

was doing about 65/70mph on the M27 a few hours ago when my boxer decide to loss power on me, so i stop as soon as. engine died on me as soon i stop the car. try to start it up again turns over but doesnt start. dint try anymore and phone AA (30mins later), they arrive. when to start the engine again and did the some, so i put the gas pedal down and it start up but really bad soun dlike miss firing loads and it died again, so it got towed home.
sounds like it doesnt have enough compression but may be worng. last service about 5k and is been running nice and smooth

does any1 have any ideas what could be wrong plz, will be really gratefully

many thanks rick

It was running fine and then packed up and then started again but roughly then it might not be too bad.

It's more likely to be an ignition or fuelling fault than something mechanical.. The Boxer is well-'ard anyway and you weren't thrashing it..

Check if you have fuel at the fuel rail. Could be just a failed fuel pump.

Check if the plugs are getting some juice.. though I'd expect several rather than just one to be affected by the sound of it.. could be the coil gone and died rather than an HT lead or a plug.

Why do you think you've lost compression?

If the fuel and sparks check out okay.. do a compression test.
