Potential Mods for a 146 ti

Hey,
Been considering uprated brakes - Brembos probably - and suspension for my recently acquired 146 ti. Looking for advice and or testimonies from other Alfa owners regarding the best way forward in this matter before parting with any hard earned cash.

Cheers

For a 4-pot Brembo brake setup, you can use the 305mm discs from a Fiat Coupe and the Brembo Calipers from a Seat Leon Cupra R (the first generation). These are radial mount calipers and will require an appropriate bracket made up in order to mount them...

The 305mm GTA Brembo calipers have also been tried but these have axial mounting lugs with a different hole spacing to the standard 146 hub mountings. This means the GTA caliper mounting lugs sit very close to the 146 hub mountings so very difficult to get a good conversion bracket made up. The Cupra radial mount ones are really the ones to go for if you want the Brembo setup on your 146.

Re: Potential Mods for a 146 ti

^^^ The easiest option by far if you are looking for a larger brake conversion as the Fiat Coupe 20vt disks are easily available off the shelf, for calipers I used them from a Seat Leon as they come with radial mounts, then it is easy for any engineering place to manufacture the bracket. Give them the hub, caliper and disk and they will make it fit. Note, in the last picture the bracket was not finished - there needed to be a cut out for the driveshaft to fit back in the hub properly.

Re: Potential Mods for a 146 ti

Why put larger brakes on the car.Is that for robot to robot,or track.I had a 96 146 ti model, i nearly lost my teeth stopping, now i have a 99 model and think they fixed the problem.Turbo in at 13000km 260bhp ,still stops fine for normal daily use, sure i had to lower the car, bigger rubber, strut, etc.nice on highways but not for track and robot 2 robot.Lowering always looks neat.

Hey Stroker - how about a couple of pics of your turbo setup? I'm keen to see how you managed the plumbing. I'm still toying with the turbo idea. What compression ratio on the pistons? What boost to get 260bhp ? Hey its not completely off-topic - its a potential mod, right!

I could make the standard discs fade with ferodo ds pads when driving really hard on the road and track. Now I have a 16vt engine it really stops well from high speeds with the larger fronts, though it is necessary to re-balance the braking on the rear calipers as it is too biased to the front otherwise.
